IUCEE was founded in 2007. Initially, the IUCEE vision was supported by global entrepreneurs Mr. Desh Deshpande, Ms, Jayashree Deshpande, Mr. Narayanmurthy (Infosys), Mr. Arjun Malhotra (co-founder HCL), and Mr. Gopal Krishnan (then CEO of Infosis). IUCEE is now supported by consortium members institutionsÂ
The IUCEE consortium members was established in 2010. It is a platform that provides an opportunity to participating institutions to share, collaborate, and learn from their peers. It helps in creating an ecosystem that promotes good practices.
The IUCEE Virtual Academy, started in 2010, uses technology to enable engineering education experts to conduct live Webinars and MiniCourses on-line to faculty and students all over India. The objective of the Virtual Academy is for experts around the work to offer insights into how to improve engineering education, using technology.
The first Annual Conference, ICTIEE 2014 was held at BVB College of Engineering and Technology (BVBCET), Hubli, Karnataka. The Annual Conference (International Conference for Transformations in Engineering Education, ICTIEE) is held every year in order to facilitate the sharing and collaboration between the institutions, faculty and students associated with IUCEE.
The Journal for Engineering Education Transformations (JEET) was initiated in 1986 by Dr. N. V. Ratnalikar (with the title Journal of Engineering Education). In 2007, the journal became the joint responsibility of IUCEE and one of its Consortium Colleges, Rajarambapu Institute of Technology (RIT).
Pilot I of the IIEECP program was formally launched in January 2015 with financial support from Microsoft India.A major stimulus came to IEECP In 2016, when IGIP (International Society for Engineering Pedagogy) Austria, a highly prestigious and respected organization in Europe, recognized IIEECP as being worthy of joint certification.
The Annual Leadership Summit was an outcome of the realization among several leaders of IUCEE institutions that good governance and institutional leadership is fundamental to the survival and progress of Indian engineering institutions in the challenging times. The first leadership summit was conducted in 2018 in Goa.
During the leadership Summit in Goa in July 2018, a representative of CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) gave a Keynote, talking about how in the 1980s the Indian automobile manufacturers formed quality circles, which helped the Indian automobile manufacturers learn from each other thereby achieving world class quality for all. They did this after overcoming concerns about losing the competitive edge.
In January 2019, IUCEE decided to launch a pilot online course that would introduce faculty to the basics of research in engineering education, with a strong emphasis on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and on action research.
