Abstract: This webinar will present an overview of best practices and relevant use cases for employing Generative AI in engineering education. It will address academic integrity considerations and demonstrate practical applications of these technologies in instructional settings. The session will dive into the use of MATLAB Copilot for developing instructional content, implementing projects with Arduino hardware, and conducting student assessments. The webinar will conclude by outlining resources provided by MathWorks to support educators and students in integrating Generative AI with MATLAB, as well as highlighting opportunities to contribute feedback and help shape future initiatives aimed at advancing engineering education.
Presenter: Dr. Will Greenwood is a principal education engineer at MathWorks. He supports programs and products in the Education Marketing organization related to curriculum development, hardware connectivity, and generative AI. Prior to joining MathWorks, Will was an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at San Jose State University. Will received a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor specializing in geotechnical earthquake engineering.

Abstract: The webinar will begin with “Setting the Context” and discuss the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The analysis of SDGs will establish the degree of relevance of these SDGS for an institute of higher technical education and, thus, establish the priorities for those training the young minds. With few examples, the importance of actions at an individual level and as a faculty will be articulated. These examples will also introduce measures of the sustainability such as Carbon Footprint, Life Cycle Assessment, and Carbon Neutral Campus. One possible framework of sustainability in academics will be shared with emphasis on the key stakeholders and the interdisciplinary teams to achieve higher order thinking and the imperatives to achieve the SDGs. A research publication as a case study will be discussed to impress the opportunities that exist with the synergy of digital and core technologies. The session will conclude with Q&A. Note to participants: It is recommended that multidisciplinary faculty from each institute participate in the webinar to enable each institute to act to include sustainability topics in curricula, projects, and research.
Presenter: Peeush has 26 years of combined industrial experience in corporate R&D having worked with Aeronautical Development Agency, Larsen and Toubro, General Electric, and Siemens. He has worked on technologies involving aerospace, chemical and mechanical domains in the segment of energy and propulsion. In energy domain, he led of team of technologists to develop decentralized renewable energy solutions and products, design of large process heaters for refineries, flow-thermal simulations of airfoils, turbine blades, combustion, and gasification.
