As the demand for engineers capable of solving complex, real-world problems continue to rise, both academia and industry face a shared challenge: how to effectively cultivate advanced problem-solving skills in future professionals. These skills are now central to engineering program accreditation, yet remain difficult to develop through traditional classroom methods. This interactive webinar introduces Cooperative Problem-Based Learning (CPBL)—a research-backed pedagogical approach that integrates Cooperative Learning principles into the inductive Problem-Based Learning process. CPBL offers a structured framework that guides students step-by-step to become self- directed learners and proficient problem-solvers. With over 15 years of proven impact, CPBL has enhanced teamwork, motivation, deep learning, metacognition, and problem-solving among engineering students. Participants will gain practical strategies to implement CPBL in classrooms and see how this approach better prepares graduates for collaborative, high-stakes environments.
Join us to explore how CPBL can serve as a powerful bridge between academic instruction and industry expectations—equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in today’s complex engineering landscape.
Presenter: Dr. Khairiyah Mohd Yusof is a Professor of Engineering Education. Prior to joining Purdue, she was a Professor in the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering and the founding Director of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Centre for Engineering Education. She was also the past president of the Society of Engineering Education Malaysia. A practitioner, trainer, and researcher in engineering education, she is most passionate about guiding engineering academics to develop a scholarly approach in their practices.
