About IUCEE – EPICS
The IUCEE-EPICS Partnership (Engineering Projects in Community Service) has been launched in partnership with Purdue University in 2016. EPICS is an academic program in which teams of Purdue students partner with local not-for-profit community organizations to provide technology solutions. This is a long-term partnership, which allows for more significant projects that may take 2 or more semesters to complete. EPICS projects are intended to solve real problems, and are defined in consultation with project partners from not-for-profit community organizations.
The most important aspect is that students working on EPICS projects develop important skills, which are transferable to any other real world problems, making the engineering graduates much more “employable”. For the students, EPICS programs not only make them more employable, but also develop their leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
Prof. Williams Oakes founded this program at Purdue University almost 20 years ago. Now EPICS programs are at over 30 Universities all over USA. The IUCEE-EPICS Partnership has been launched in 2016. It is now in its second year. Fourteen IUCEE Consortium Institutions are members of this IUCEE-EPICS partnership in 2017 (there were six in 2016, and two have continued to be associated with the EPICS program in 2017), and are engaged with several community partners with the goal of providing engineering education with emphasis on design thinking and development of professional skills while assisting communities on real projects.

EPICS in IEEE
EPICS in IEEE a signature program of IEEE, empowers students to work with local service organizations to apply technical knowledge to implement solutions for a community’s unique challenges. In this way, EPICS in IEEE not only assists communities in achieving their specific local community improvement goals but also encourages students to pursue engineering for community improvement as a career
