Entrepreneurial Orientation and New Venture Success

There is an increasing shift from the myth of the “lonely hero entrepreneur” to the “collective nature of entrepreneurship,”, understanding and leveraging the team’s entrepreneurial orientation assumes critical importance to enhance venture success. EO is vital because it is well-suited to dealing with pressures arising from both a rapidly changing external environment and a natural internal tendency towards inflexibility and inertia as organizations increase in size. The webinar will provide a brief overview of current research trends in the field of entrepreneurial orientation and insights on key dimensions to focus on while supporting new venture pursuits of student startup teams as well as nascent ventures housed in incubators.

Presenter:

Sandhya Balasubramanian, Ph.D. in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship). She earned her MBA from UMass Lowell and her M.Com. and M.Phil. degrees from the University of Madras, India. She currently serves as Assistant Dean of Academic and Corporate Program Development in the Division of Graduate, Online and Professional Studies, University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her research interests include entrepreneurial orientation, entrepreneurial universities, venture development organizations and team performance. She recently co-authored an article published in the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal (January 2020) titled Does University entrepreneurial orientation matter? Evidence from university performance (Balasubramanian, Yang & Tello, 2020). Sandhya is also co-authoring a book on Entrepreneurial Orientation along with Bill Wales, Joshua White and Vishal K. Gupta (Oxford Publishers; under review). She has presented at several national regional and national conferences, received the best paper award for entrepreneurship in 2015 and outstanding reviewer award in 2017 at the Eastern Academy of Management Annual Conferences. She currently serves on the editorial board of the South Asian Journal of Business Studies.
